Sooo where to begin...I am not too happy with my race today, a little discouraged for my marathon, but I guess that's how the cookie crumbles on some races. :)   I got to see Lily before the race started.  She loaded me up with some cytomax.  I think that helped.

It's a tough course in my opinion.  It's an out and back TWICE.  ugh.  The only good thing is being able to turn around and see how close the next girl is to you.  I started with one other girl that looked to be quite a threat and sure enough she was!  She was super fast!  So I followed behind her for a few miles until she was just way out of my reach.

Splits:

Mile 1 - 6:48 - Started too fast.  Goal was to have a negative split race & not go over 7 minutes on any mile.  Well that didn't happen.

Mile 2 - 6:59

Mile 3 - 6:57

Mile 4 - 6:52

Mile 5 - 7:02 - I think this was the mile after the first turn around I got to see RAD & my Hubby.

Mile 6 - 6:56

Mile 7 - 6:54

Mile 8 - 6:57

Mile 9 - 7:24 - eek what happened here??? This might have been the 2nd turn around & I saw RAD & Wes again.  I did take a shot block here so maybe that was the reason.

Mile 10 - 6:56

Mile 11 - 7:04

Mile 12 - 7:00

Mile 13 - 6:50

Sorry I wasn't able to stay & chat longer Rachel, but I had to leave right after the awards to get to Panguitch by 1.  We made it on time, barely.  My hip was killing me the whole way there and back.

1:31! That's only two minutes off your PR on the fastest course in the world. You run half marathons at a faster pace than I can run a 5k. Great job!

I love Panguitch. Well, I love driving through there. It has such a fun name.

From Bonnie on Sat, Sep 10, 2011 at 21:23:56 from 64.119.33.134

I agree with Burt (oh no, did I just write that for all to see??) -- you can't PR every single race, especially when you are in the middle of your training. This was a much more difficult course than Hobble Creek, and you are still working out your nutrition and things for the marathon. 2 mins off your aided PR is not bad at all. So, in summary, I say: Congratulations on a great race!!!

From JulieC on Sat, Sep 10, 2011 at 21:28:32 from 71.35.251.111

FIRST congrats on a way awesome time for an honest course and SECOND no worries merri. from what I remember MichelleL said to double the course and you get your time for SGM (based of last years course, and I am sure the course is still similar). so there you have it. I bet you are sub three material this year. Your 5 k was awesome too!!

From Rachelle on Sat, Sep 10, 2011 at 21:51:36 from 66.7.127.115

Seriously Merri there is nothing to be dissapointed about. A sub 7 minute half on an honest course is AMAZING!!! You are seriously such an amazing runner and I look up to you so so much! Congratulations on the great time and 2nd place overall.

Seriously girl why do you let me run with you? I am totally out of your league.

From MCKENZIE on Sat, Sep 10, 2011 at 22:14:28 from 67.2.214.211

I thought you did Great! It's not a fast course and out and back is never fun but you did a 1:31 on a tough course and you looked strong the last mile...Good Job!

From Merri on Sat, Sep 10, 2011 at 23:07:45 from 160.7.252.148

Thanks everyone. I think I was being a little too hard on myself. :)

From RAD on Sat, Sep 10, 2011 at 23:29:08 from 76.27.16.189

Merri, you are still my friend!!! :) I think you totally killed the race and were looking strong every time I saw you. I just hate that your slowest miles were when you saw me. I guess I am like a black hole and suck out your speed and take it all for myself :) Congrats on an awesome race and also to Wes!! I was going to say "hello Mr Merri" but I figured husband was better :)

This was a difficult course and with speed doing those 180 degree turns it isn't easy to slow, turn and speed up again. I think it takes some speed out of you to do that by interrupting your groove. And you have to do it 20X in that race! I was fun to see you though, looking as beautiful as always! Its hard not to be hard on yourself when you don't feel like you reached your own goals. I felt that way on Monday, so I understand. Please know you did a KILLER job on this race though! SGM will feel like a breeze at these paces and you'll knock it out of the park! Can't wait!!!

Oh, glad you made it home on time. I was late to my shower.

first -- i disagree with burt (about panguitch). but everything else he said i agree with. and i agree with bonnie too. and everyone else. i think this was a very good race for you -- out-and-back-out-and-back is not easy. you ran a very solid time and you are right in the thick of your training (see, now i am just repeating everyone because i do in fact agree with them). you have gotten yourself into great shape this summer and i think you are right on track for the marathon. niiiiiice moooooves merri!

From Sue on Sun, Sep 11, 2011 at 15:41:29 from 63.248.41.148

Yes take heart Merri! Not only is 1:31 an awesome time already but I bet you can take off a couple of minutes or more to get what you would have got at hobble creek. Seriously 2 out and backs? That is makeing a dead stop and trying to gain momentum again. You are right on Par to blow your PR out of the water for the marathon and some! I hope the hip is ok!!! Ya want to run tomorrow. I think I am ready!!!

From josse on Sun, Sep 11, 2011 at 16:57:29 from 166.250.1.186

I agree with Julie about doubling the course and it a pretty good indicator of what housed capable of running Sg. in. this is a tough course esp when you use to these super downhill halfs. I would be very happy with that time. great job:)

From Leandra on Sun, Sep 11, 2011 at 23:51:01 from 97.117.110.227

What?? TWO out and backs?? sick. That time is amazing and you should be soo soo soo proud of it!!! I'm proud of you even if you're not too happy with it :)

And wait, did wes run the half too? I was thinking he just did the 5k, now I feel like an idiot for not talking to him about it yesterday.

From Merri on Mon, Sep 12, 2011 at 00:12:01 from 160.7.252.148

Leandra - yes Wes ran the half too! His first it was 1:56 I think.

And thanks everybody. I think I was just bummed at how hard a 7mm pace felt. But I'm actually feeling better about it and think I'll do just fine. :)

From Lily on Mon, Sep 12, 2011 at 12:15:18 from 67.199.178.210

Merri that course is not the same as a downhill so your 1:31 is actually very good! Out and back and flats and inclines psshhh you did awesome!
