Not 100% happy with this race, but some lessons learned and I had some awesome friends & family there before & after so that should make up for it.

The course was changed this year and to me it seemed a bit harder.  And combine that with some humidity, well I'll stop complaining there. ;) My goal was under 44 minutes, didn't make it though.  I tried to save some energy and push it as hard as I could the last half mile.  I should have started that for the whole last mile and then maybe I could have been under 44.

Mile 1 -6.46 - didn't feel that great, but I kept thinking I'd feel better as I got warmed up.

Mile 2 -6.30 - mostly down hill, tried to just work with gravity.

Mile 3 -7.03 - running down university ave, it was fun to have the parade crowd there cheering.

Mile 4 -7.07 - started the mental games of giving up, why do I do this?, I should just walk etc :) I hate when I do this.

Mile 5 -7.30 definitely slowing down, a few people passing me.  Knew the hill was coming...

Mile 6 - 7.36 - the hill, I always hate this hill.  I kept my head down and just focused on the road and kicked as hard as I could with about a half mile left.

Things to change...get more sleep, don't start to fast, be more mentally strong & start final kick earlier.

I did a cool down mile with MichelleL.  It was good to see her, but so sad she's moving in August.  Didn't get to see my little sissy Leandra though.  Hung out w/ Lily a little before & after but that's it for bloggers I talked to.  My hubs also ran it, his time was 51:04

Sorry you missed sub 44, but that's still a great time.

I think with the humidity you ran a great race!! seriously the heat affected a lot of us, if not all. I was running the same pace in my 21 miler yesterday and thinking HOW COME I COULD NOT FOR THE LIFE OF ME PICK IT UP IN THE LAST TWO MILES OF THAT RACE? ANSWER--- FIRST HOT, HUMID RACE OF THE YEAR!! with CLOUD COVER TO MAKE IT ALL MORE COMPACTED WITH FIREWORK STENCH. SO GREAT JOB MERRI!!! : D. I guess we missed each other at the finish. Enjoy some heat simulation runs and the next race you will meet your goals :DDDD
