1 mile warm up - 9.02

Met lyns & lily for 7 - don't think Lyns was too excited about waking up this morning.  she finally came around though :)  We ran 2 miles to the SF jr high, then ran the SF memorial day 5k route and ran 2 home.   (splits:  8.13, 8.32 (somewhat uphill), 7.50 (somewhat downhill), 8.17, 7.58, 7.51, 8.04

added 1 cool down mile 8.01

Should somehow find a way to squeeze in one more mile to be in the double dig's today.

No more tri for me tomorrow.  Our super speedy swimmer had to back out, so I am thinking about going to Provo canyon and running up a ways then running down w/ the 1/2 marathon racers...

* * Mapleton Moonlight Half Marathon Race Report * *

So my neighbor Chad somehow talked me into running the Mapleton Half last night around 6pm. (I guess I got in the double digits today after all)  I called the race director and she said I could register at Jolley's campground, so I decided I'd give it a try.  My husband seemed to be really pushing for me to run this race for some reason.  I think maybe he wanted me around in the morning?  Still not sure why, but I'm glad I did b/c it was a blast!

The name of the game for the Moonlight Half was to come in 1st right after midnight. Not a fan of that really. I would prefer everyone starting at the same time, but what can you do? :)  I started at 10 pm and came in at 11:45.

Here are my splits:

Mile 1 - 7.40

2 - 7.38

3 - 7.30

4 - 7.56

5 - 7.29

6 - 7.37

7 - 7.45

8 - 8.08 - Started to lose some steam :) and this is where we left the canyon and started running around town.

9 - 8.16

10 - 8.25

11 - 8.27 - really lost some steam I guess

12 - 8.06 - felt pretty good the last 2 miles.

13 - 7.58

I had to take one potty break and I got lost one time.  Luckily it was a dead end so I knew I was going the wrong way.  The post race food was the best!  And it really was a lot of fun seeing all these crazy people w/ flashing glowsticks running w/ the full moon.  Luckily I didn't see any werewolves.  Although if I were to see a werewolf I would hope it would be Taylor Lautner.

Tons of people seem to want to run up and then back with the 1/2 tomorrow! I know a couple of 'bandits' going for sure...you might as well join them :)

Nice job on the miles! When is your next race?

From Merri on Fri, Aug 07, 2009 at 10:49:44 from 160.7.234.108

I wish that there wasn't a cap on the # of racers on that, I would totally pay and run it, but I am too late!!! :( I am having a bit of a dilemma on my next race. I would absolutely LOVE to be able to run the TOU marathon again, but my long runs haven't been well long. So my other options are the Spanish Fork 1/2 or the TOU 1/2. I'll probably find Leandra half way through Hobble Creek and finish w/ her on the 22nd though. Tonight is the mapleton moonlight 1/2 too...

oh man! That moonlight 1/2 sounded SO fun, I wish I would've remembered it was tonight. I'm going to run the TOU 1/2 with my friend who is running it as her first 1/2. She AP about 10 or so, so I won't race it, I just want to be there for her!! I think I'd like to do TOU full as well, I'm trying 18 tomorrow to see how it goes...THEN we'll decide :)

From Lily on Fri, Aug 07, 2009 at 12:07:46 from 160.7.234.250

oooo that sounds fun! If you run the Spanish Fork half- I may be in too!

I'm gonna be a 'bandit' tomorrow too. They're overtaking my trail,i figure it's only fair that I get to run a little with the 1/2 marathoners. I actually wish I had signed up for this 1/2 instead of Hobble Creek. I think i'm ready for it and i just kinda want to be done so it can stop hanging over me! :)

If you want to run a few later I am up for it.

Great race Merri, that sounds like so much fun. I wish I would have known more about this race, would have been so fun. I like your picture too.

I so wanted to do that!!! How fun. So,. how did they do the awards?? I think I would have walked around and goofed off just to make sure I came in at midnight!!!

From RAD on Sun, Aug 09, 2009 at 23:30:26 from 76.27.12.70

Great job on the 1/2!! AWESOME splits! Even with a potty break. I think it would be hard to judge your start time as well, but I'm with Kelli, I'd probably just sit and goof off to get the prize :)

From Merri on Mon, Aug 10, 2009 at 13:46:48 from 160.7.234.108

I added some pictures if you all want to see. :) Kelli they just gave the first 4 to cross after midnight something. I don't even know what. There was no awards ceremony or anything. And watches were supposed to be not allowed, but I wore mine anyway :)

Thanks Rad! It was a lot of fun, and I'm counting it for a "long run" since I did 9 earlier that day, so I think I'll for sure do TOU marathon.
