Well I beat my goal, so that's the good news.  The bad news is that I was getting passed right and left, left and right. :) Getting passed is my least favorite thing.  ha ha

My 6 year old woke us up at 4 with a bad dream.  I fell back asleep until 4:45 and got up and got dressed.  I woke the baby up at 5 and nursed him.  Put him down made and egg and snarfed it because I could hear the baby still crying.  Nursed him a second time, then got my gear and my groove on and met Lily at 5:45.  Lily was so nice and gave me and our neighbor ride up to the park. We made a quick potty break in the bushes where a bunch of sticky weeds found my shorts and I had to play pull the poky weed out of my mesh built in underwear.  Then I took a swig of Lily's power drink and gu and we were off.

Mile 1 - 7.54 (started out too fast, plus uphill) Could see Lily for about the first half mile then she left me in the dust.

Mile 2 - 7.44 (some downhill) Larry passed me just before mile 2 marker.

Mile 3 - 7.41 I think my 5k time was around 24 something.  I was honestly surprised I was going that fast.  I felt so slow.  These two miles had some more down hill in them though.

Mile 4 - 8.03

Mile 5 - 8.08 - Really started to drag and thought of Cliff Hanger on the tv show Between the Lions where he says "CAN'T                     HOLD                 ON              MUCH              LONGER!!!!!"

Mile 6 - 8.04 - I tried to pick it up, but I really had nothing to give.  I really need to work on endurance and building my miles first I think, then I'll start working on my speed.

.2 - 1.23

I felt pretty slow and out of shape.  I had to keep telling myself I just had a baby and it was ok.  I have about 10 or so extra pounds I need to lose before I'll be back to my best racing shape, so I better get crack-a-lackin.

This is the most I have run without stopping in a long long time and that's pretty good news for me.

I've seen that movie a bajillion times, but I'm not catching it. You'll have to hold my hand and point it out to me. :(

ok ok maybe I may have fudged it a bit. :) I said I got my gear and my GROOVE on...close right? I should have said you threw off my groove.

Merri you did soooo awesome! I would NEVER have done that well 2 months postpartum. Never! You are still my hero! Next year we are going to dominate! Thanks for coming with me. So glad we are friends!

No kidding, awesome race for a new mom who is hardly gettin' any sleep! You beat what you thought you could do, that is what matters here!

We all hate getting passed, it sucks. But it is part of life!

GREAT race Merri! You seriously did an AMAZING job at the race! Hold the baby and thank him for the extra 10 pounds :) Then you can't get mad when you look at his cute little face (this is what I have to do right now). I completely understand your sentiments with the flabby and out of shape, but again this just calls for a little snuggle time and then we can't get mad :)

My favorite part is at the end after he apologizes to the old man, and he goes, "Ah, he's a sweet guy."

From Merri on Sat, Jul 24, 2010 at 17:58:55 from 160.7.252.148

Thanks Lily, you're my hero :)

Kelli, I know getting passed is part of running, but usually I like to start waaaay at the back so I can be the one passing. ha ha today we started at the very front. :)

You're right Rachel I can't be mad at the litte cutie. He's so worth it.

Burt I can totally hear the old man's voice in my head right now.

Great job on the race, coming back post baby is hard, it took me a while after my last. I am a little scared this time cause i am in my 30's now and I'm sure it will be harder.

Josse you'll have no problemo! You're such a good strong runner that you'll have no problems I am sure. :)

Thanks Oreo!

Great race and I liked the report. I love to see people getting after it so quickly after having a baby. Awesome!

From Kelli on Mon, Jul 26, 2010 at 14:27:40 from 71.219.99.30

I have the same philosophy! I started the St George marathon 7 minutes behind the clock, with the 5 hour pace group. It is probably harder to do that in a small town race! But I hear ya, being passed is my least favorite part of racing, so much so that it has kept me from running certain races!

From allie on Mon, Jul 26, 2010 at 21:40:52 from 174.23.226.74

super race merri! you are coming back strong.

"snarfed it" is my favorite part of this report.
